My Journey as an Alternative Healer

After graduating from California College of the Arts in 1983,

I returned to Honolulu, Hawaii and pursued my dream as a Fiber Artist.  I exhibited my art work in Northern California, British Columbia and Hawaii.  I sold jewelry at local craft fairs and stores.

In 1989, I adopted a kitten and she changed the direction of my life.  After a few days of the adoption, Paint was lethargic and not doing well.  The veterinarian's office was closed because it was Thanksgiving weekend.

My cousin who was visiting from California offered to do Reiki on my kitten.  30 minutes later, Hillary said, "Let's see how Paint feels tomorrow."  To my amazement, about 7 hours after the Reiki Treatment, Paint got up, started drinking water and she had a small bite to eat.  The next day, Paint was fine.  I took her to the veterinarian for a check-up and Dr. Lau said, "She's fine.  Maybe it was the over excitement of being adopted."

I started to search for Reiki classes and found it was offered at the Honolulu School of Massage.  When I looked at the brochure, I saw the Massage Program and it struck a cord within me.

I never considered becoming a Massage Therapist.

After receiving my Massage License, I was offered a job in a Massage Establishment that provided Medical Massage for Auto and Work Injury patients.  I received hands-on training to help people recover from their injuries.  The work was so interesting,

I put my art career aside.   I found Medical Massage to be gratifying work.

The Medical Massage company sent me to Myofascial Release Seminars (MFR) by John F. Barnes.  When I received MFR from

Mr. Barnes during a demonstration, I was surprised by how gentle his touch was.  Through John F. Barnes, I understood, I'm working on  the  connective  tissue  or  fascia  to  make  changes  in  the physical body.

Myofascial Release changed my perception of massage therapy.

I witnessed a progression of positive results with consecutive massage treatments on my patients.

I worked for 4 years at various Medical Massage Establishments gaining valuable experience before opening my own business, Alana Therapeutic Massage.

I decided to take more Healing seminars and a Hypnotherapy Certification course to expand my services.  In 2000, I changed my business name from Alana Therapeutic Massage to Alana Healing Center.
